Happy winter!

Welp, this is the last thing I'm going to post this year
due to the semester being over. I hope everyone enjoys
thier winter break, if you're getting one (like me!)

The pan shot

Happy winter! While progressing my storyboards I came across a pan shot
amoungst the boring boards so I thought "let's show this!"

I started with a long storyboard, with the line through the sketch
to show where the shot begins and ends.

Then, I outlined all of the important stuff, or just things
in need of outlines. By the way: there is no character
animation in this shot, s that's the only reason
I decided to outline Jack along with the bg (background).

Coloring is as simple as keeping the base colors
I've been using... at least at this stage of my pan shots.
And I decided against including the fish from the
original drawing due to continuity issues
that would be raised from it.

Texturing is always a bit of a hastle, but no matter what
style you're going for its best to remember that further
objects have less detail, so texture less on
far objects (this is part of why my bg mountains
never had outlines).

Remembering where I'd placed the sun is
a bit tedious, but using that memory I found the
spaces that need highlight and shadow
(minus my characters due to style synergy)

Lastly, I added a graident white to blue soft light over everything!
Black is what I'd normally use, but due to my pan shots
being better than shots with animation, I used complimentary
color shadows so that it comes out in a better mix.

This animation still has a ways to go, but there's definite progress being made.

General store

Until I'm finished with my animation, I might just post
continue to post my progress as I do things...
and show how I do things with things, too.
Maybe.

First step I did was grab the storyboard of the shot I needed
(ignore Jack for now. He's not important) and get
that image all by itself.

From there I proceeded to outline everything that wouldn't move
within the framed shot (because merging a still background
to character animation is a BAD IDEA) and tweek a
few things I noted from my original artwork of this building.

From there, I checked if this building has been colored before (and it has
due to previous shots of the same building) and color
it to show that it is indeed the same building. Sometimes I tweak
stuff due to distance color fading, but I don't think it's
necessary at this moment.

From there, I texture what I need to as to fit my liking.
This does, by the way. I'm actually content with
my backgrounds in this style.

Add a little shadow and viola! One more background done
in a long list of backgrounds needed for the animation
to be completed!

Jack

So! I'm not a fan of turn-arounds. Still, this is his,
and his was needed considering he's the main character
of that animation I'm working on. 1 and two were my original color
ideas for his outfit. And no, 2 wasn't a copy of freddy kruger.
It's just a coincidence. Seriously.

The town

Guess who did more stuff?!

A dried-up waterfall. Sort of. It's hard to explain.

The shade beneath the saloon isn't much cooler than the
direct sunlight outside of it.

A view of all the buildings in town. This one
is actually a pan shot.

Everyone's favorite saloon! But it's... kinda dreary, right?

Not sure if I'm posting my finished animation up but we'll see!

Desert project

I haven't posted any art in a while, but it's mostly due to an animation
I'm working on to add to my portfolio! I've just
finished the background (minus any needed text). As, always
here's how I made it:

My initial sketch (that whited out area removes any spoilers)
shows the first two shots I intended to make using it.

Adding outlines where needed and a bit of maneuvering
so the composition doesn't hurt my eyes so much.

After adding colors. I always start my projects with a pretty solid
idea of how I want the colors to "flow", but end up
tweeking it a bit to better fit storytelling and guide the eyes easier.

Whether or not I'm using shadows or a desaturated version of my
concept in the final idea hasn't been considered yet
(the ideas kept coming while I worked) but this is what I've gotten
done so far... minus a ton of storyboards for the next scenes.

blotched work

A  friend of mine told me about blotch drawing.
It's something like- you'd start with this:

And then, if you look at the blotch long enough
(or sometimes it will be instantaneous), you'll get
an idea for a new product. Like this:

So!
If you guys ever have creator's block, welp, give it a try!
You never know what will come out once you start.
I mean this literally if you start it blind.

Finally!

Okay! Now that my VERY busy quarter is over I can start posting stuff again.
So, lets go with my new thing.

I was feeling like working on up shots, so I decided I'd try that for once.

By the time I'd started outlining, I thought "this could go somewhere"
and figured I'd work with an evil feel.

The color was a work in progress, but I like this as a set for this character
... for later projects... so this is what I'm doing. There are "evil-er" colors,
but this works for him.

Aaand this is my "finished" version. For now.

Cave of arms

This is something I've wanted to do for a while so...

This grid helps me get a sense of perspective (at least somewhat)

Then I rough out my general idea (most drawings are there so I get a sense of the turf,
not to actually be added).

Then I added the general colors I felt I wanted to get a sense of "corpse".

... And then I added textures, shadows and changed the overall tone to fit the "I'm in a cave" feeling I wanted and bam. It's done for now.

This is still me warming back up into the design process.
More work from other projects will start up soon.

Back to work

Welp, finally back on the drawing board.
This is my new sketch

Then I (roughly) lined it out

And viola- this new guy appears. He may be an important character.
Maybe.
Once my re-writing is done.
Maybe.

Its been THAT long

Honestly, I'm not sure just how many times I've
redesigned this character.Tons- he's the main character I draw and has
been for about two years. If not for this character, I doubt I'd
be continuing my media based career.
This character plays a large role in my career.

Previous design: I posted under "Possibilities"

Guppy

Had a dream about a fish.
So I made a rainbow fish to get it off my mind.
Just before I continue work on the web comic.

The beginning

I figure I'd post the title page for now and get to work on my other stuff
(because I DO want to finish this!). Also, I'm not 100% sure I want to post all of my
pages on this blog and flood it so I may or may not make a
separate blog or website to feature this comic,
but I'll post a link to whichever it is I'm doing for this.

Alpha Bomb?

As I mentioned a while back, I will be working on a web comic.
Not sure how often I'll be posting about this project or work for it, but there are many sketches
already done so we'll see. These two are my main characters, by the way.
More on the may come up later.

Back to work

A rough sketch to get back into work motion after spring break.
Also, I do not have a dog, but if I did have one, it would have to
look like this. Simplistic.
